Minister of Justice Ali Sabry says perpetrators must be classified and that crimes cannot be prevented through remand or imprisonment.
Speaking during an event yesterday, the Justice Minister said since drug addicts are victims, they should be rehabilitated and reintegrated to society as good citizens instead of being imprisoned.
The Minister said in order to reduce congestion caused by the transfer of prisoners to the Department of Prisons, the Department is tasked with sending good people to society by supervising the rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation of persons who have committed minor offences.
Minister Sabry said it is a great achievement to be able to reduce the time period to provide narcotics related reports by the Government Analyst’s Department to one month, from eight months.
In the future, it is due to be reduced to two weeks.
