The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees Union says the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will be compelled to increase fuel prices.
Speaking to media, General Secretary of the Association Ranjan Jayalal said monthly electricity tariffs will increase in the near future.
Jayalal said the government claimed they will be able to fill reservoirs through rainfall expected in April adding however the government resorted to purchasing 300MW from the private sector for three years.
He said the government has escalated the issue adding the Ceylon Electricity Board will have to incur a cost of Rs.95 billion to purchase electricity from the private sector.
Jayalal said the government will however never enter favourable agreements with private power plant owners.
The General Secretary said a situation that will further burden the public is being created at present.
