The Ministry of Health says if the public continues to behave carelessly and irresponsibly, the COVID-19 situation will deteriorate which will lead to the closure of the country and perhaps imposition of even harsher restrictions.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige said it is now the responsibility of the people to behave in a manner which will prevent restrictions being imposed once again.
When questioned by media on whether the claims of another lockdown in December are true, Dr. Ginige stressed that it is a possibility and if the current increase in deaths and cases continues, authorities will be compelled to impose strict restrictions once again.
He also noted that the authorities in their part have brought down the necessary vaccine doses and now it’s up to the people to obtain them at appropriate times and also adhere to health guidelines.
Dr. Samitha Ginige noted they are continuously updating the new health guidelines and educating the people on best practices.
He requested the people to extend their support and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus.
