The Government Medical Officers’ Association says the COVID-19 situation in the country could spiral out of control once again as necessary attention is not directed to certain areas.
The GMOA said non-adherence of health guidelines in public transport, non-flexible working hours and a considerable number of youth not having received the vaccine are some of the main factors that need serious and prompt attention.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo yesterday, Assistant Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Naveen De Soyza said they cannot blame the public as adequate buses and trains have not been deployed at present.
He said institutions are also unwilling to introduce flexible working hours that has resulted in congestion.
Dr. Soyza also stressed that the refusal of youth to get vaccinated against COVID-19 is a concerning development that will affect the future of the country.
He said if another wave emerges in the country, people will have to face a huge economic crisis as well as social issues.
