The Government Medical Officers Association claims with the discovery of the BA.5 variant of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka, the number of daily COVID-19 cases and deaths are on the rise.
The GMOA issuing a statement said the COVID-19 Operation Centre established at the Ministry of Health should be reactivated in order to combat the coronavirus.
The GMOA also called for the Technical Committee appointed to reach decisions pertaining to the coronavirus to be reconvened.
The GMOA is of the view that although the number of infections reported daily is between 100-150 the actual number of cases could be much higher.
The Government Medical Officers Association added that an unusual number of deaths are being reported daily in comparison to the number of reported infections.
