State Minister Duminda Dissanayake says the current Members of Parliament protect the government when they are part of the government and criticise the government when they are part of the opposition.
Speaking in Parliament today State Minister Dissanayake said this has been a norm in the country since 1948.
He added as a result the country is stagnant and is unable to achieve development goals.
He said he has been part of both the government and the opposition during his 21 years in Parliament.
The State Minister said during elections there are divisions between groups and conflicts over different policies with one party emerging victorious.
The State Minister added the party that loses thereafter works towards defeating the government.
He claimed that as a result Sri Lanka remains stagnant with little to no progress.
