Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says under the prevailing situation the country needs avenues for people to survive, and not walking paths.
Speaking during an event to donate essential medical equipment to the Pottuvil Base Hospital, the Opposition Leader said special attention must be directed towards all sectors that have collapsed including the education and agricultural sectors.
MP Premadasa said instead of constructing walking paths for VIPs, avenues must be created to strengthen the education sector.
He noted instead of increasing the prices of goods and further burdening the public, the government must provide concessions and relief.
The Opposition Leader claimed avenues are being created for government MPs and their associates to live luxurious lives.
MP Premadasa also challenged the government to conduct the Provincial Council and local authority elections at the appropriate time.
He claimed if the public referendum is sought, the government will understand the peoples grief.
MP Premadasa said instead of making false claims before the international community, if public opinion is sought, the people’s grievances will be revealed.
