Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the country has not progressed although two years have lapsed since the government came into power.
Speaking during a gathering the Opposition Leader said while the pandemic was used as a reason for development in other parts of the world, the government used the pandemic as a reason for Sri Lanka’s decline.
MP Premadasa questioned if only Sri Lanka was hit by the pandemic, adding that foreign investments in other countries had increased amidst the pandemic.
He added the economic growth rate increased in other countries while it took a negative value in Sri Lanka during the last quarter.
The Opposition Leader said as a result of the pandemic, new factories were established in other countries while they developed with new inventions and ideas which resulted in new jobs for the youth.
He added however in Sri Lanka the unemployment rate increased.
MP Premadasa said the people have rejected the existing political culture, adding that a new culture will be introduced through the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
He noted the present government has severely burdened the public over the past two years, and it is time for change.
The Opposition Leader said the SJB will prioritise the people’s needs.
