The Committee on Public Enterprise has taken several decisions based on the letter submitted to the committee by the former Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board MMC Ferdinando.
The decisions were reached when Ferdinando appeared before COPE once again yesterday (23) to discuss the letter he directed to the committee on the 10th pertaining to retracting a statement he made.
Following extended deliberations, the COPE decided to approve a request by MMC Ferdinando to redact several words from the statement made by him before the committee on the 10th of June.
MMC Ferdinando recently withdrew a statement he made before the COPE pertaining to the decision by the government to award the Mannar Wind Power project to the Adani group.
In a letter to the COPE Chairman Parliamentarian Charitha Herath Ferdinando said he sought to withdraw the statement and issued an unconditional apology.
Ferdinando at the COPE meeting said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa summoned him and informed him to award the wind power project to Adani Group as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was pressing President Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa has also since rejected the CEB Chairman’s statement.
