State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara says the Committee on Public Accounts and Committee on Public Enterprises in Parliament are expected to investigate the move to pay compensation for the Chinese fertiliser ship which was rejected by local authorities.

Speaking to media in Kandy today, State Minister Jayasekara said there are doubts as to whether the compensation payment for substandard fertiliser is a matter of a commission payment.

The State Minister said those involved in importing the fertiliser stock must be held responsible as the country did not receive the fertiliser while the stock which arrived also had many issues.

He said Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage claimed no payment will be made for the shipment nor would the content be accepted adding however the exact opposite had now occurred.

He said Minister Aluthgamage must honour his statement. State Minister Jayasekara said losses must be retrieved from those responsible for the situation.

He questioned if the USD 6.7 million is being paid to settle the matter of commission payment as there were no valid reasons for compensation to be paid since it was not used.

The State Minister said necessary action will be taken against those involved through Parliament adding natural justice will also be served accordingly.

On a separate note, State Minister Jayasekara said the law must be enforced against all individuals involved in importing substandard LP gas.

He said the heads and the companies that reached a decision to change the composition of gas cylinders and the officials of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution who approved the change in composition must be held responsible.

The State Minister said it is evident to all individuals that the issue lies with the gas ratio and not the gas stove.

State Minister Jayasekara said State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna has confirmed that the recent shipment of gas also did not meet the required standards.
