The Ministry of Trade says consumers will be allowed to purchase up to 10kg of Samba rice from Sathosa outlets during the festive period.
Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said the public will be able to purchase 10kg of rice instead the previously announced 5kg at Sathosa outlets until the 31st of December.
The Minister said consumers will also be able to purchase the special relief packs worth Rs. 1,998 from Sathosa outlets.
He said such relief packs contain 10kg of Supiri Samba rice and two kilograms of locally produced raw sugar.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said due to various reasons, some outlets do not receive adequate stocks of raw sugar.
He said in the event, the outlets face difficulties deciding on the products for the Rs. 1,998 relief packs.
The Minister said therefore they have allowed the consumers to purchase additional two kilograms of rice through the relief pack.
The Minister noted that the concession will be granted until further notice.
