Parliamentarian Uddika Premarathne has requested senior politicians to consider qualifications of backbenchers in Parliament in order to delegate responsibilities to them.
The MP said the government must consider proposing their names for posts including the post of Prime Minister, in order for them to contribute to solving the country’s issues.
MP Premarathne speaking in Parliament yesterday said he entered Parliament after obtaining the third highest number of votes from the Anuradhapura District.
However, MP Premarathne was disheartened that he remains a backbencher.
The Parliamentarian said various MPs spoke of system changes, adding that the most important system change should begin within Parliament.
MP Premarathne noted, many backbenches in Parliament were idling without responsibilities and subsequently wasting time.
He questioned if senior Parliamentarians were aware of the knowledge they hold.
MP Premarathne claimed they did not require official residences or V8 vehicles to serve the people.
He said the backbenchers in Parliament can help solve the people’s issues.
