The Ceylon Teachers Service Union says a complaint has been lodged with the Police against the Deputy Chairman of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha for assaulting teachers and parents who were engaged in a peaceful protest at the Mederigama Vidyalaya in Mawanella.
Taking to social media this morning, Chief Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said he expects a formal inquiry into the complaint.
Jayasinghe said the Deputy Chairman along with his allies showed an act of thuggery by trespassing on school premises adding no one is allowed to trespass on state institutions or schools.
He said the Chairman of the Warakapola Pradeshiya Sabha also threatened parents and attempted to disrupt the protest.
Jayasinghe said the Officer in Charge of the Mawanella Police Station can demonstrate ‘One Country, One Law’ concept in practice, adding they will take necessary steps.
