The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint an investigation committee led by a retired High Court judge to probe the recent incidents surrounding the Anuradhapura Prison linked to State Minister Lohan Ratwatte.
Minister of Justice Ali Sabry speaking in Parliament today said approval for the appointment of the committee was granted at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
The Minister said the events should not have taken place under any circumstance.
Minister Sabry expressed his regret to all individuals who were subject to the incidents at the Anuradhapura Prison.
The Justice Minister also claimed that a committee has been appointed by the government to examine the inmates being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
