The Committee on Public Finance has approved the supplementary estimate of Rs.695 billion to cover the cost and secure the necessary funds to maintain essential public services without hindrance.
Rs.395 billion among the sum is recurring expenditure while Rs.300 billion has been allocated as capital expenditure.
Accordingly, Rs.87 billion has been allocated to continue the payment of the monthly allowance of Rs.5,000 to state workers that was paid since January 2022 and Rs.40 billion to continue providing the monthly allowance of Rs.5,000 for pensioners that was initiated from January 2022.
Rs.15 billion has been allocated to continue the provision of an additional allowance of Rs.1,000 for Samurdhi recipients that was initiated in January this year.
In addition, Rs.50 billion will be allocated to the Ceylon Electricity Board to make payments to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to meet energy requirements, while Rs.12 billion will be allocated towards encouraging a green agriculture and Rs.50 billion for fertiliser subsidy.
Meanwhile Rs.25 billion has been allocated to cover food and other supplies requirements at hospitals and prisons due to the rise in prices of goods, while another Rs.4.5 billion has been allocated for recurring expenses and Rs.21.5 billion to settle loan payments.
