President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed a three-member committee to look in to charges levelled by Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala De Silva calling for an independent investigation into a Cabinet Minister allegedly obtaining a bribe from a Japanese firm.
The committee will be chaired by Rt. High Court Judge President’s Counsel Kusala Sarojini Weerawardene and also includes Rt. Senior DIG SM Wickramasinghe and Rt. Sri Lanka Administrative Service officer SMPK Perera.
Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa had raised the matter in Parliament recently based on reports circulating on social and electronic media.
The President instructed that the investigation report be handed over by the 31st of July.
