The Court of Appeal has set dates to consider the writ petition filed by Dr. Mohamad Shafi Shiyabdeen of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital seeking payment of salary arrears and allowances, after he was sent on compulsory leave over charges of performing illegal sterilizations.
Dates were set when the petition was taken up before Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna today.
The Minister of Health, the Director General of Health Services, and the current and former directors of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital have been named as respondents in the petition.
The petitioner states false and baseless allegations were levelled against him claiming he performed illegal sterilizations on women, following which he was removed from service and sent on compulsory leave.
However, in his petition Dr. Mohammad Shafi alleges he has not received the salary arrears and allowances for the relevant period thus far.
