Election monitoring body the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence has expressed its disappointment over the appointment of venerable Galagodathe Gnanasara thera as the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on ‘One Country-One Law’.
National Coordinator of the CMEV Manjula Gajanayake speaking to NewsRadio said the appointment must be rethought.
Gajanayake said an individual who was in remand custody and was released on Presidential Pardon, was vested an important role in the Task Force.
He added the mechanism in place to ensure ‘one country, one law’, is more than sufficient.
Gajanayake said in the event the President requires support in this regard, there are many institutions such as the Ministry of Justice, the Sri Lanka Bar Association, including Minister of Justice Ali Sabry who is very active and engaging.
