Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena says while several schools were closed down during the past 20 years, under the present government they will ensure that schools remain open and functional.
The expenditure heads of the Ministry of Education and four State Ministries are being taken up for debate in Parliament today.
Minister Gunawardena said that as the Education Minister, he does not approve of schools being shut down adding that such buildings must instead be transformed for development purposes.
Minister Gunawardena said when schools closed owing to the coronavirus the government including former Education Ministers GL Peiris and Dallas Alahapperuma reached crucial decisions related to examinations and results together with the Department of Examinations.
