Nuwara Eliya District Parliamentarian Palani Thigambaram says citizens will become beggars in the near future if they continue to tolerate burdens placed on them further.
Speaking during a rally in Hatton, MP Thigambaram said fuel prices have increased to record highs at present with a litre of diesel being sold at Rs.215 and a litre of petrol at Rs.250.
He added the value of the dollar has exceeded Rs.260 while prices of goods have also increased.
MP Thigambaram noted the public must take to the streets against the government.
The MP said the government continues to deceive the public adding the people are unable to bear such burdens further.
He said after Minister Basil Rajapaksa took office, instead of resolving the economic crisis as claimed by the government, prices of fuel and other goods increased sharply
