China has pledged its government will do its utmost to help overcome the economic crisis as well as the COVID challenge in Sri Lanka.
The assurance was given by the Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China Li Zhanshu during his first diplomatic meeting with Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
The meeting which was held through video technology was attended by a number of high profile officials of China and Sri Lanka including Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Ministers Basil Rajapaksa and GL Peiris.
During the meeting the Speaker has sought the assistance of the government of China in overcoming the economic challenges posed by the current COVID situation while thanking the support Sri Lanka has received in facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said China has donated three million vaccines and supplied 18 million in total to Sri Lanka which has been instrumental in the vaccination drive the country has undertaken to manage and control the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Communication Department of Parliament, Chairman of the NPC Li Zhanshu has assured full support to Sri Lanka under the guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
