The Police Department will declare open a children’s evidence recording unit for Court proceedings today.
The unit set up in Ragama will be declared open today to coincide with World Children’s Day.
Senior DIG in charge of the Children and Women’s Bureau Ajith Rohana speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department yesterday said through this unit, child witnesses will be videotaped and will not be required to be presented in Court.
Although more than 20 years have passed since the enactment of the relevant legislation, the methodology was not enforced in the country.
Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said the objective is to present as much scientific and technical evidence as possible in child criminal cases.
