The Ceylon Electricity Board General Workers Union says they will be forced to cut power island wide.
Speaking to NewsRadio Chairman of the Union Malaka Silva said they will be forced to cut electricity due to the current dollar and oil shortage in the country.
Silva commented that electricity can be generated through large generators within the country, using gasoline.
However he commented that a unit of power would cost Rs.30 through such power generation methods, leaving the CEB with an increasing debt burden.
Therefore he predicted an imminent power cut due to the current economy in the country.
Silva also revealed that a mafia has been created within the CEB, which did not allow renewable power generation methods to be procured.
He commented that certain officials were blocking the approval of solar farm projects.
Malaka Silva stressed that the government had two years to avert this crisis.
