Unions claim the issues of the Ceylon Electricity Board are mounting further.
Speaking to media, Convener of the Ceylon Electricity Board Joint Trade Union Alliance Ranjan Jayalal said relevant authorities are attempting to deal with the power crisis by providing short-term solutions similar to individuals adding reloads to make a few phone calls through pre-paid mobile connections.
Ranjan Jayalal said the country and an institution like the CEB cannot run in such a manner. He said fuel stocks available for the Kelanitissa Power Plant will run out by tomorrow morning while the Sapugaskanda Power Plant will not be able to function beyond tomorrow.
Ranjan Jayalal noted that even the hydro power plants in the country are facing major issues.
He said the Cabinet of Ministers and Parliament have also failed to deal with the crisis at hand.
Ranjan Jayalal noted that although the Subject Minister, the CEB General Manager and authorities claimed that power cuts will not be imposed yesterday, residents of several areas experienced power outages from last afternoon.
