The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees Union says the financial position of the CEB has dropped significantly.
Chief Secretary of the Union Ranjan Jayalal told NewsRadio CEB employees were paid salaries with the greatest of difficulties.
Jayalal said power cuts will continue while the duration cannot be reduced given the present circumstances.
He said certain areas are facing longer power cuts than the announced duration.
He also stated that a CEB employee cannot obtain a loan from any bank.
Jayalal said the CEB Chairman announced several measures in an internal circular to curtail expenses in order to ease the financial burden of the CEB.
He added the government will have to resort to several measures in order to address the present situation.
He also stated that the power cut duration during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period in April will only increase further.
