The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union has launched a work-to-rule campaign from noon today demanding that the General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board be removed from the post.
When inquired by NewsRadio, Executive Committee Member Charitha Jayanath Dayaratna said under the first phase of the trade union action, only engineers on shift will report to duty during their shift.
Dayaratna noted engineers will report to duty in case of power outages or other emergencies across the island during the first phase of the trade union action.
He said however under phase two of the trade union action, they will not report for any duty after 4.15pm, regardless of power outages.
He claimed if authorities fail to resolve the issue under these circumstances, they will launch the first strike, since 1996.
Dayaratna said the Union should not be blamed for the inconveniences caused to the public as a result of the strike, adding the relevant authorities and groups creating issues within the CEB must take responsibility for the inconveniences caused to the people.
