The Governor of Central Bank Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivard Cabraal says the CBSL has paid the USD 500 million sovereign bond that matured today.
The development was confirmed by the Governor in a tweet.
The USD 500 million sovereign bond which matured today was a topic discussed heavily in recent weeks especially owing to the depletion of Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves.
Certain factions had raised concerns that the government will default on its debt commitment while several other parties requested authorities to restructure the loans in order stabilise the economy.
Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal meanwhile had maintained that the government has required funds set aside to honour its debt commitments.
