Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga says citizens have the right to express their views if a government in a democratic country reaches wrong decisions.
The former President said the people of the country must unite and work towards protecting democracy.
Taking to social media today, former President Kumaratunga commenting on students of the University of Colombo refusing to accept degree certificates during a recent graduation ceremony said students brought democracy to its pinnacle in a silent yet powerful statement.
The former President added the actions of the students were a win for democracy, claiming they didn’t take up arms, use slang, or aggression to express their opposition.
