Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal seeking a writ of mandamus against the Inspector General of Police and the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security to implement all recommendations cited in the final report by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that probed the Easter Sunday attacks.
The IGP, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, including another senior Police officer have been cited as respondents.
The Cardinal in the writ petition said the relevant officers have neglected duties and despite issuing recommendations to enforce the law they have failed to do so which is condemnable.
Therefore, Cardinal Ranjith reiterated his request that a writ of mandamus be issued requesting justice be served.
