The All Island Canteen Owners Association has requested the government to conduct a stringent investigation into the recent LP gas cylinder explosions.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Chairman of the Association Asela Sampath said a comprehensive investigation must be conducted into the matter.
Sampath noted a group representing the union will engage in a hunger strike tomorrow, based on the gas issue.
He said the government has used two individuals to refute the matter, and questioned if this is how the government takes responsibility for the lives of the citizens.
He said it is a serious issue, and the government must take steps to resolve the matter promptly.
Sampath said the government must conduct investigations and look into differences between the quality of domestic and international gas cylinders, and what effects it has on consumers, adding that there is no programme in this regard.
He added the time is apt to look into the quality of gas, as the government does not possess any knowledge pertaining to the issue.
