The Opposition says the 20th Amendment to the Constitution has affected the independence of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Former Parliamentarian Ajith P Perera said the government has made appointments on their whims and fancies.
The Former MP charged that the Bribery Commission cited technical issues and recently withdrew 42 indictments the Commission filed before High Courts.
Ajith Perera said arbitrary appointments were made to the Bribery Commission.
He added cases were not withdrawn based on accuracies but citing that Commissioners approvals were not obtained when filing the cases.
Former MP Perera claimed cases in which indictments were served can be heard with the technical concerns addressed and refiling the cases.
Former MP Perera said they cannot expect a fruitful investigation by the Bribery Commission into the revelations of the Pandora Papers.
He said the Pakistan Prime Minister has an anti-corruption history and said in Sri Lanka however, an ineffective Bribery Commission has been vested the responsibility of investigating the leak.
