An individual who swindled more than Rs. 80 million by obtaining vehicles on the pretext of selling and returning the money has been arrested by the officers of the Western Province Southern Crimes Division in Ragama.
Police said the suspect was arrested after a lengthy investigation into three cases of breach of trust by buying and selling vehicles without paying money.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect had sold a jeep, a cab and a car worth Rs. 86 million from three persons residing in Negombo, Athurugiriya and Ja-Ela areas but had not returned the funds to the owners.
The 43-year-old suspect is a resident of Ragama.
He is due to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today.
The Western Province Southern Crimes Division is conducting further investigations.
