Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport arrivals terminal have seized 2.98 Kilograms of gold at an estimated value of Rs. 47,211,075, illegally smuggled to Sri Lanka from Dubai.
Customs revealed that the arrested suspect was a 35 year old resident of Dematagoda.
Customs officers arrested the individual when he attempted to smuggle the gold out of the airport by removing it from his luggage, and concealing it in a trolley.
Airport customs revealed that the gold were found in 16 biscuits weighing 116 grams each, together with four more pieces of gold.
