Private bus owners have submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport to make diesel available for private buses through Cooperatives in addition to Sri Lanka Transport Board depots.
President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne addressing a media briefing today said bus fares will have to be increased if Ceypetco fuel price increase significantly.
Wijeratne said private bus owners cannot afford to pump fuel at Lanka IOC filling stations as it is too expensive.
He said if CPC diesel prices also increase the minimum bus fare will increase to Rs.30 adding it will become unbearable to the public and called on the government to implement a mechanism to stop this from happening.
He said diesel prices will definitely increase adding that filling stations at SLTB depot are also running out of diesel.
Wijeratne noted that if CPC prices increase by an exorbitant sum they will be compelled to take action.
Gemunu Wijeratne also said they discussed that signing an agreement and travelling to Ukraine would be a better option at present.
He added in Ukraine they will die of gunfire, while in Sri Lanka they will succumb to various other difficulties.
He said their hardships are worsening as businessmen and as the general public.
