The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Union warn the public to be vigilant over the quality of frozen food, due to continuous power cuts experienced island wide.
Speaking to media, PHI Union Chairman Upul Rohana said the public must refrain from selling or purchasing frozen food including meat which carry a bad smell, change in colour or different shape and is therefore unfit for human consumption.
During the past two weeks the PHI said officers have taken legal action against 387 such shops that continued to sell meat and milk unfit for human consumption.
He blamed the food items going bad, on freezers not functioning due to 7 hour long power cuts.
Upul Rohana requested traders to be responsible when selling products to customers.
He also requested consumers to be vigilant when purchasing frozen food from shops.
