The Bar Association of Sri Lanka including President Saliya Pieris PC and other representatives have filed two Fundamental Rights petitions before the Supreme Court seeking an order to be issued to the Cabinet of Ministers prompting them to take immediate action to resolve the prevailing economic crisis.
In addition, the petitioners requested the Supreme Court to direct the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and other relevant authorities to take necessary steps to ensure there is no shortage of essential items including food, gas, fuel, and medicine.
NewsRadio Court correspondent said 42 individuals including the Cabinet of Ministers, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Secretary to the Cabinet, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Secretaries to Ministries including the Ministry of Finance and the Attorney General have been cited as respondents in the petitions
