The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection charges that despite relief provided to the public through the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, private banks and financial institutions have failed to enforce regulations.
Chairman Ranjith Vithanage addressing a media briefing in Colombo yesterday said consumers are being told by banks and financial institutions that they don’t enforce regulations of the Central Bank and that they should instead speak to the Central Bank.
Vithanage charged Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal of attempting to mislead the public and the government of not having a genuine inclination to serve the public.
He charged that circulars issued by the Central Bank are being blatantly violated.
He added steps are being taken by banks and financial institutions to seize or impound vehicles in broad daylight, claiming the public is facing an injustice.
