Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena has convened a special meeting tomorrow to discuss the revision of bus fares.
Chairman of the National Transport Commission Shashi Welgama speaking to News Radio stated all parties including representatives of bus unions have been summoned to the meeting.
However, bus unions say a final decision on fare revision should be made today. If not, the bus unions have stated steps will be taken to discontinue bus services from tomorrow.
Speaking to a media briefing, Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijeratne said politicians have recruited staff for State Institutions adding they should be held accountable for the inefficiencies in such institutions.
He noted Government institutions are heavily over-staffed while the state continues to complain the institutions make losses.
Gemunu Wijeratne stated the government was attempting to recover such losses through bus owners.
He claimed bus owners will withdraw from operations tomorrow if fares are not revised within the day.
