Investigations into the death of the 9-year-old girl in Atulugama, Bandaragama, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said investigations thus far were carried out through four Police teams.
Police have recorded statements from 20 individuals thus far, regarding the incident. However, exact details of the suspects involved in the murder of the child have not been uncovered yet.
The child’s remains have been placed at the Panadura Hospital while the post mortem examination will be conducted today.
Police said the remains of Fatima Aisha were found in a shrubbery area adjacent to her residence last afternoon.
The mother of the girl had lodged a missing persons’ complaint with the Bandaragama Police Station after the girl, studying in Grade 4, didn’t return home last morning after visiting a store nearby to purchase groceries.
