A boat carrying a group of Sri Lankan asylum seekers has been turned back by the Australian Operation Sovereign Borders.
An Australian Border Force spokesman said they safely returned the boat back to Sri Lanka after it had been intercepted on Saturday.
ABC News reported that a boat of 15 refugees was halted by the Australian Border Force near Christmas Island on the 21st of May.
Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles and Treasurer Jim Chalmers reportedly gave the go-ahead for the boat to be turned around and redirected back to Sri Lanka.
The Border Force said each asylum seeker was given a screening to check their health and protection status before being sent back home.
