Australia has assured that it will extend its support to Sri Lanka to become the education hub in the region.
The matter was conveyed when Minister for Home Affairs of Australia Karen Andrews called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat.
Speaking during a discussion with the Head of State, Minster Andrews said this will be achieved by establishing educational institutions in Sri Lanka that will allow students from foreign countries seeking degrees in Australia to study preliminary stages of relevant courses in Sri Lanka.
The Minister said funds amounting to AUD 12 million will be allocated.
The Head of State during his tenure as the Secretary of Defence entered an agreement with the then Australian Minister of Defence Scott Morrison to put a stop to human trafficking.
Accordingly, the President assured the implementation of a stronger mechanism between the two nations to curb drug trafficking, piracy and human trafficking
