Today marks the 22nd day of the indefinite peaceful protests organised by the youth at Galle Face, calling for the government to step down.
It is notable that the protest has continued with the participation of massive crowds despite day or night, since the 9th of April.
Meanwhile, protests have been organised elsewhere around the country today calling for the President and the government to resign while introducing a change to Sri Lanka’s political structure.
Protests have been organised today in Maharagama, Piliyandala, Ratnapura, and Kurunegala.
A protest march with the participation of many artists including cinema and stage actors, musicians, TV, and radio presenters and producers is scheduled to get underway today.
The protest march will begin from Independence Square at 3pm and move towards Galle Face to join the mass protest.
Renowned actress Damitha Abeyratne said the country’s leaders are afraid of the public, who have organised massive protests across the country.
She stressed that a family-centred political model has failed the country.
Therefore, Damitha Abeyratne called on the President and the Prime Minister to step down as the public demand’s it.
