Around 20 illegal interim paddy storages have been raided and sealed.
The warehouses were identified during raids conducted by the Consumer Affairs Authority in the Polonnaruwa, Ampara and Anuradhapura Districts to identify illegally operated paddy storages.
This included a large-scale paddy storage in Chavalakade, Ampara.
The owner of the stock of paddy voluntarily agreed to hand over the entire stock of three million kilograms to the Paddy Marketing Board at the government guaranteed price.
It was confirmed that the stock of paddy was collected to use as raw material for alcohol production.
