Sri Lanka Army personnel have been deployed to oversee the orderly supply of fuel at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation filling stations.

Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premarathna when contacted by NewsRadio said the Army personnel will only engage in overseeing if the supply of fuel through bowsers is being distributed in a stringent manner by the filling stations to the public.

The Army Media Spokesman said the soldiers will not engage or intervene in any other duties.

The public during the past few weeks raised concerns that the supply of fuel was not being carried out in a stringent manner despite filling stations holding sufficient stocks.

The shortage of fuel and gas across the island has inconvenienced the public with incidents of violence also being reported.

Meanwhile four individuals passed away while standing in queues to obtain gas and fuel during the past week.
