Minister of Justice and Constitutional Reforms Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe proposes the appointment of a Select Committee to decide on the programme of the government and the timeline for the next election.
Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Rajapakshe said while the government has short- and long-term programmes to address the issues faced by the people, a Select Committee should be appointed to scrutinise such initiatives.
The Minister said the Speaker of House should name the Committee after holding discussions with all political parties in Parliament.
He said if the committee has a better proposal, it should be recommended to the government.
Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe noted, the Committee can also decide when the programme should be discontinued and conduct fresh elections.
The Minister said this would be more fruitful other than hurling allegations at one another.
He said if the current trend continues, the public will not have faith in any of the 225 Members of Parliament.
