The Court of Appeal has rejected a writ petition filed by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando who was seeking an order to prevent him from being arrested by law enforcement officers.
The order was issued by a bench comprising Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.
Earlier this month, a writ petition was filed before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent the arrest of Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando.
MP Fernando was named as a suspect in the case filed over the unrest reported in Colombo in May.
Accordingly, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant to arrest MP Fernando.
Nearly 30 persons including Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarians were named as suspects and were subsequently arrested in relation to the unrest.
