The JVP claims any government formed with the current President in office goes against the public mandate.
Speaking during a media briefing today, JVP Chief Secretary Tilvin Silva said the country will not be able to recover from the prevailing crisis.
Silva said the public is calling for the current Head of State to step down immediately adding therefore any government formed with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the helm will not receive any support or the trust of the public.
He said such an administration will not be able to govern for even a month adding therefore any decisions reached at present must not be focused on protecting a single family.
The Chief Secretary claimed all proposals tabled at present by other groups are not for the benefit of the public.
Silva said there are two crises at present, one the crisis faced by the country and the public and the other the crisis faced by the Rajapaksa family.
He said the public hopes for the crisis faced by them to be resolved and not for the Rajapaksa-crisis to be resolved.
Responding to the statement by the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence General (Rtd.) Kamal Gunaratne pertaining to the JVP during a recent media briefing, Tilvin Silva said the Defence Secretary must understand his duties adding he is a state official and not a member of the present administration.
Silva claimed the Head of State still assumes he is the Defence Secretary while the present Defence Secretary acts as if he is the Head of State.
He said the Defence Secretary needs to verify facts prior to presenting them to media.
The Chief Secretary said the law must be enforced against the groups that instigated violence adding violence was instigated from within Temple Trees.
