State Minister of Estate Housing & Community Infrastructure Jeevan Thondaman has tendered in his resignation to the President.
State Minister Thondaman and the Ceylon Workers Congress held discussions with the President yesterday.
The meeting was held discuss the establishment of a university upcountry, providing estate workers the Rs.1,000 daily wage, appointments for assistant teachers among other issues.
Leader of the CWC Senthil Thondaman, State Minister Jeevan Thondaman, and Parliamentarian M Rameshwaran attended the talks.
However, according to the CWC, the party did not receive favourable response from the Head of State for their demands.
Accordingly, State Minister Jeevan Thondaman has resigned from his post while the CWC will function as an independent group in Parliament.
