Another 258 persons have been arrested in relation to violent incidents reported in the country on and after the 9th of May.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said a total of 664 persons have been arrested in relation to last week’s incidents.
Meanwhile, the Police Media Spokesperson said that based on the directive issued by the Attorney General, Police have sought permission from the Speaker of House to question seven Members of Parliament in relation to last week’s violence.
He said if they have adequate evidence against an MP, they will take legal action.
SSP Nihal Thalduwa added that the Speaker was notified to direct the MPs in question to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department, if they attend today’s Parliament sitting.
