Another 159 individuals have been arrested yesterday (15) in relation to the violence and unrest reported across the country including at Galle Face and opposite the Temple Trees on the 9th of May.
Speaking to media, Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said a total of 398 suspects have been arrested thus far.
Negombo Police has appointed a special Police Team to further investigate the damage caused to luxury hotels in Negombo.
SSP Thalduwa said suspects were arrested over assaulting non-partisan protesters, damaging state and private properties, torching vehicles, and unlawful assembly.
The Police Media Spokesman said 756 complaints have been lodged as of 6 am adding investigations are being carried out by Police Station islandwide under the direct supervision of relevant Senior Deputy Inspect Generals and DIGs in charge.
He said 20 individuals out of the 159 individuals arrested yesterday have been released on bail after being produced before Court while 22 individuals were remanded.
SSP Thalduwa said a total of 101 individuals have been released on bail while 159 individuals have been remanded.
He requested the public to provide their cooperation to the ongoing investigations adding the public can provide relevant information by contacting 1997 or 119.
SSP Thalduwa said the Criminal Investigation Department, Divisional Crime Investigation Units, and relevant Police stations are carrying out further investigations.
